11th July presentation of the star helmsmen of the Trombini Trophy
Challenge (12-15 July) Classic car rally in Marina di Ravenna and
a party at the hospitality village.
All the races on internet and live on Italian television.
Wednesday 11th July begins the seventh edition of the Roberto Trombini
Challenge trophy, the match race event of the highest sporting level
ever in Italy.
The first official ceremony of the Trombini Trophy 2001, organised
by Progetto Vela in collaboration with Circolo Velico Ravennate
will be the opening ceremony with skippers and crews,followed by
a party in the hospitality village.
Thursday 12th July will be the start of the races with the second
Round Robin for qualification on Friday, quarter and semi-finals
on Saturday 14th and the finals on Sunday 15th July.
The list of contestants in the first 20 of the world ranking list
in this speciality and representatives of 9 syndicates of 11 contestants
in the next America's Cup in New Zealand 2002-2003. In world classification
order:
Magnus Holmberg (SWE, 3), James Spithill (AUS, 6), Peter Holmberg
(ISV, 8), Luc Pillot (FRA, 9), Dean Barker (NZL, 10), Andy Green
(GBR, 11), Paolo Cian (Italy, 16), Morten Henriksen (DEN, 20), Nicola
Celon (Italy, 28), Russell Coutts (SWI, 75), Francesco de Angelis
(Italy, 85), Federico Strocchi (Italy).
9m monotype craft Tom 28 are used for the races, designed by Giovanni
Ceccarelli for match racing. A good shows is guaranteed, running
commentary for the public (there is also a granstand),Italian television
coverage (RAI SPORT SAT) will give direct coverage of the main phases
of the races on Saturday and Sunday 14-15th July. Information and
