Round Robin concluded: 8 skippers in the Quarter finals

Sailing Show in Marina di Ravenna, the second day of the 7th edition of Trofeo Challenge Roberto Trombini, the best match race event ever organised in Italy. Perfect weather conditions, sun and 10-13 knots wind, allowed the program to go according to plan: Round Robin finished, and the first two flights of the Quarter finals already started. The first 8 skippers have qualified for the quarter finals.

The ranking after 14 flights of Round Robin is:

1) Peter Holmberg 10-1
2) Russell Coutts 8-3
3) Paolo Cian 7-4
4) Nicola Celon 7-4
5) Dean Barker 6-5
6) James Spithill 6-5
7) Magnus Holmberg 6-5
8) Morten Henriksen 5-6
9) Andy Green 4-7
10) Francesco de Angelis 4-7
11) Luc Pillot 3-8
12) Federico Strocchi 0-11

The first two flights of the quarter finals, were very exciting and competitive, with many protests and very little difference in arrival.

The couples in the quarter finals are: 1° vs 8° (Peter Holmberg vs Morten Henriksen); 2° vs 7° (Russell Coutts vs Magnus Holmberg); 3° vs 6° (Cian vs Spithill), 4° vs 5° (Celon vs Barker). The flights of the quarter finals are the best of three races.

These are the results after the first 2 flights:

James Spithill ­ Paolo Cian 2-0
Nicola Celon ­ Dean Barker 1-1

Tomorrow will be the completion of the quarter finals and then the semifinals. On sunday there will be the finals. These races will be covered by Italian television RAI.
