From 9th to 13th July, at Marina di Ravenna the
ninth edition of the Roberto Trombini Challenge Trophy: the best
match race in Italy. Among the big names in match racing, the return
of Tommaso Chieffi (Oracle BMW)
The first grade one ISAF event in Italy returns to Marina di Ravenna from 9th
to 13th July, it has become one of the most important events on the International
calendar, thanks to the high level of organization of Progetto Vela, in collaboration
with Circolo Velico Ravennate, International Yacht Club Marinara and thanks
to the support of numerous sponsors.
The event has reached its ninth edition in fond
memory of Roberto Trombini. This years event will be an extraordinary
occasion to see some of the big experts of this type of sailing.
As always, the organizers are providing a grandstand to afford
an excellent view of the races which take place within the port
of Marina di Ravenna. There will be live television coverage and
interviews with the skippers on the pier and at the hospitality
village. Experience, professionalism and hospitality combine to
make the Roberto Trombini Challenge Trophy “the best match
race in Italy”.
There are many big names from the America’s Cup in the first list of
competitors. The organizers have announced confirmation from the following
skippers (in order of ISAF classification): Jesper Radich (DEN, 2), Jes Gram-Hansen
(DEN, 3), Paolo Cian (ITA, 9), Ed Baird (USA, 12), Cameron Appleton (NZL, 17),
Matteo Simoncelli (ITA, 24), James Spithill (USA, 39), Luc Pillot (FRA, 44),
and with the return of Italian match race champion Tommaso Chieffi (ITA, 100)
tactician of Oracle BMW and the last America’s Cup. Possible participation
of Francesco de Angelis (already seen at previous Trombini Trophy events) and
an Alinghi team.
As usual 10 identical boats will be used, Tom
28, designed specifically for match racing by Giovanni Ceccarelli
from Ravenna (designer of Mascalzone Latino). Don’t miss
the skippers presentation, the veteran car rally, the fireworks
display and gala dinner 9th July and prize giving and farewell
party 13th July.
