The second day of the match races at Marina di Ravenna for the 10th Roberto Trombini Challenge Trophy, an international Match Race event Organised by Progetto Vela, in collaboration with Circolo Velico Ravennate and the International Yacht Club Marinara. Another perfect day: the wind turned during the morning up to 10 knots reaching 15 knots by the afternoon.

At the end of the Round Robins the only skipper with all victories is James Spithill (Luna Rossa Challenge), with 11 points, followed by the Dutchman Roy Heiner with 9 points, Englishman Ian Williams with 8 points and Dane Lars Norbjaerg with 7 points. Great sailing, excitement and duels till the very last breath . The Australian Michael Dunstan is at 5th place. 6th place Favini Italian (5 points) 7th place for Swedish Bjorn Hansen (5 points) 8th place Matteo Simoncelli (4 points), gained thanks to the victories in the direct matches against the Frenchman Sebastien Col and the Englishman Paul Campbell-Jjames. Dane Peter Wibroe is at last place with zero points.

Most of the matches were spectacular thanks to the wind, there were a lot of penalties and plenty of action. Flying arrivals and double penalties, a large public followed the matches from the grandstand
on the pier of Marina di Ravenna, very close to the starting and finishing lines. James Spithill seems unbeatable: “we won all the round robins but it was not as easy as it may look, there were many hard fought matches and now the finals will be even more difficult but we are feeling good and we want to go ahead”. Flavio Favini (Mascalzone Latino) was also pleased with their results. “We are almost beginners at match racing and we are pleased with the results, tomorrow we want to take this opportunity to get to the semi-finals”. Matteo Simoncelli (Itway Match Race Team) was disappointed; “It hasn’t been a great day for us and maybe we deserve to be out however we are into the quarter-finals and we are going to give it all we’ve got and hope our bad luck has run out.
